Quick Help for SVHarbor Portal

Welcome to the SVHarbor portal!  This new version is a transition to a true portal environment.

A "portal" is a centralized point for accessing applications, information, and other resources within SUPERVALU or on the Internet.  The portal provides desktop access to applications and information through a menu and content areas called "portlets."

Each portlet provides a view of certain types of information, such as alerts, headlines, weather forecasts, etc.  Portlets are displayed with a title bar that provides the name of the portlet and control icons that allow you to obtain help information (a question mark) or personalize the portlet (a pencil).

Within each portlet you access specific content to help you work more productively.  Each of the portlets has its own help to assist you with becoming a more efficient user.

Here's an overview of the SVHarbor Portal page and the portlets displayed on it:

  • The SVHarbor logo returns to the SVHarbor Portal page from any page within SVHarbor applications.  "Help" brought you here and "Logout" does just that.
  • Links to all applications available to you are listed in a menu in the left panel of the page.  You may have access to applications, but a permission level assigned by your administrator may limit your access within an application.  To obtain access to additional programs, contact your SVHarbor administrator.
  • The Harbor Headlines portlet contains announcements of interest to SVHarbor users.  Click a headline to view the information.
  • The SVHarbor eMail and Directories portlet provides links to your eMail and Organizer, as well as to the eMail directories.  "New Mail" displays the number of new email messages you have.  "Events" displays the number of scheduled events you have.  "To Dos" displays the number of tasks you have.  All are links.
  • The Industry News portlet contains articles related to the grocery industry.  Click an article title to view it.
  • The Alerts portlet contains links to important information you need to read.  (Some alerts contain attachments with detailed information.) Click an alert to view it.
  • The My Favorites portlet provides your personalized links to favorite web sites.
  • The My Weather Forecasts portlet displays the five-day weather information for your selected location. You can personalize the weather forecast displayed and assess forecasts for other locations.

Quick Help for SVHarbor Alerts

The SVHarbor Alerts are time-critical announcements about recalls, promotions, programs, and events.  They are posted by Home Office and region representatives and often include an attachment (indicated by a paper clip) providing detailed information or instructions in Microsoft Word, PDF, or other formats.

You see only the alerts tailored to your region without having to search for them. Up to five alerts are displayed with buttons for accessing first, previous, next, and last groups of five.

To read an alert, click the alert title.  The alert is displayed in a new page.  You can click the "Return to List" link to return to the main page or a link to the previous or next alerts (located above and below the content) to open other alerts.  If the alert includes an attachment, its name is displayed as a link you can click to open it.

What's New in SVHarbor Alerts

The SVHarbor Alerts are now displayed in a small portal window (portlet) that allows you to read alerts and download attachments while your SVHarbor menu applications, the tools you use every day, are readily available.  The listing of alerts has been limited to only those specific to your region and are displayed in shorter lists for easier selection.

Quick Help for SVHarbor Headlines

The SVHarbor Headlines are important announcements from Home Office and regional representatives.  They contain news about promotions, programs, and events that are of interest to our SVHarbor customers.

You see only the headlines tailored to your region without having to search for them.  Up to five headlines are displayed with buttons for accessing first, previous, next, and last groups of five.

To read an article, click the headline.  The article is displayed in a new page.  You can click the "Return to List" link to return to the portal page or a link to the previous or next headlines (located above and below the content) to open other articles.  If the article includes an attachment, its name is displayed as a link you can click to open it.

The SVHarbor Headlines are now displayed in a small portal window (portlet) that allows you to read articles and download attachments while your SVHarbor menu applications, the tools you use every day, are readily available.  The listing of headlines has been limited to only those specific to your region and are displayed in shorter lists for easier selection.

Quick Help for SVHarbor eMail and Directories

If you have an account, your SVHarbor email address and organizer indicators are displayed.  Click your address or one of the information lines to go to that area of your account.

Although it may appear slightly different, all of the eMail account functions as it did previously.  Online help is available from the Tools menu.

You can access the online, searchable directories by clicking "Show Directories."  Click the directory name and search or select as you did in the previous version.

Your SVHarbor eMail address, Organizer indicators, and the directory "Search" function have been moved into a portlet, where they function as they did in the previous version.  There will be future developments in this area.

Quick Help for My Favorites

My Favorites provides space for a user-created menu of bookmark links to your favorite web sites.  If you log in to SVHarbor from different computers, your favorites will always be readily available.

Up to five favorites are displayed with a link at the top to "View All Favorites" (if you have more than five) in a separate page.  There is no limit to the number you can have.

To add, edit, or delete favorites, click the pencil icon in the My Favorites toolbar to display the edit page. You can also click the "Set up your Favorites" link to edit within the My Favorites portlet.

To add a favorite, enter a title to appear in the menu and enter the URL (typically http://www. followed by the Web site name and its extension, as in: supervalu.com) in the corresponding URL field.  Click Save when finished.  To close the edit page, click the return arrow in the toolbar.  The open portlet closes when you click "Save" or "Cancel."

To edit an existing favorite, open the edit page or expand the portlet, find the bookmark in the table of current bookmarks, and update the title and/or URL.  Save and return as before.

To delete an existing favorite, open the edit page or expand the portlet and select the "Delete" checkbox to the left of the favorite to delete.  Save and return as before.

What's New in My Favorites

My Favorites has become a standard small portal window (portlet) on the SVHarbor portal page, but uses any existing favorites you set up in the previous version.  You can add, edit, or delete from within the portlet or on the edit page.
